Consultation on the Amalgamation of Riverview Infant and Junior Schools
We are proposing to amalgamate Riverview Infant School and Riverview Junior School to create a single, unified primary school. This will be achieved by closing Riverview Junior School and expanding Riverview Infant School, extending its age range from 4-7 years to 4-11 years. As part of this transition, Riverview Infant School will be renamed Riverview Primary Academy.
Both schools already operate on the same site at Cimba Wood, DA12 4SD, and no physical expansion is necessary. The existing facilities are well-equipped to accommodate all students within a single, cohesive school structure.
The proposed school merger brings exciting benefits for both pupils and parents. By combining the schools, we’ll be able to offer a richer curriculum, improved professional development for colleagues, and a more efficient use of resources. With a single school, we can monitor pupil progress more effectively and create a supportive, specialist environment for colleagues. Parents and carers will only need to apply once, and the longer relationships between colleagues and students will help us truly understand and support every child’s needs. Ultimately, this change will boost standards, improve governance, and provide a stronger learning experience for all.
The proposal aims to:
- Establish a continuous learning journey from Reception to Year 6 under one unified leadership team.
- Ensure greater consistency in teaching and learning, improving transitions between key stages.
- Streamline resources, staffing, and support services to enhance the quality of education.
- Strengthen the school’s ability to meet the needs of all pupils by fostering a stronger, unified school community.
