On Thursday 22nd February 2024 the 2nd Annual Golden Thread Alliance Golden Gala took place at the London Olympic Aquatic Centre with schools across the Trust taking part in a range of team races, individual events and relays. With over 200 children participating and several hundred parents/carers and adults packed in the stands cheering them on, the event was a huge success.
In the morning, the events for KS1 ranged from diving for objects, using pool noodles to traverse the pool and using teamwork in the magic carpet race. Through the events, there were victories for the teams from Fleetdown, Oakfield, Temple Hill and West Hill. At the half way point, Oakfield were in the lead with Riverview, Temple Hill and West Hill close behind.
After a brief break for lunch and adjustments made to the pool, the KS2 events began. There were some incredibly close finishes and even greater sporting prowess on show throughout the Gala. The events included individual 25M in backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Gold trophies were awarded to children from Culverstone Green, Fleetdown, Meopham, Oakfield, Riverview and West Hill.
Finally, we ended on to the highlight of any swimming gala – the relay races. These involved every child across KS2 taking part and demonstrating the team aspect of the event with every child doing their bit!
The event finished with a lap of honour with the school flags and every child receiving a medal for participating. The announcement was then made as to the winner of the 2024 Golden Thread Alliance Golden Gala. This year, there would be a new name on the trophy: West Hill Primary!
A huge well done to all the children who took part, demonstrated the trust’s values (ambition, respect and courage), represented their school and performed admirably. A massive thank you must also go to the staff who gave their time to help make the event a success, and finally to the parents, carers and adults who helped to support the children and create an atmosphere that helped to make the event one that the children will cherish for a lifetime.
